St. Patrick’s Day

The Best Way To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is originally celebrated in Ireland. But over the years, as immigrants flock to the United States, they have imposed some of their cultures in this new soil and one of them was bringing the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Prepare to get your mind blown when it comes to green: St. Patrick was commonly associated with the color blue. Take it as a positive sign that Ireland has adopted some of these rituals — the city of Dublin usually throws a grand parade — before you fear that you're doing it all wrong.

What is St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick's Day is observed every year on March 17, the fifth century anniversary of his death. For over 1,000 years, the Irish have celebrated this day as a religious holiday. Irish families will usually attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon on St. Patrick's Day, which occurs during the Christian season of Lent.

Saint Patrick is Ireland's patron saint and national apostle, having lived in the fifth century. He was abducted and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was 16 years old, having been born in Roman Britain. He eventually fled and returned to Ireland, where he is credited with converting the Irish to Christianity.

Following Patrick's death, the legend surrounding his life became increasingly rooted in Irish culture: The most well-known legend about St. Patrick is that he used the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock, to explain the Holy Trinity -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

What is the best way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

Even if it's for a holiday you don't normally send cards for, cards are one of the simplest ways to brighten someone's day. Make some for your grandparents, people at your church, or kids at the local hospital, and you'll put a smile on a lot of people's faces on March 17.
